I have really exciting news for you all today!
First, you all get to hear from my friend and fellow fitness instructor, Liz.
Second, I am doing my first free giveaway! Keep reading and follow the instructions at the end of this post, and you could win a free fitness class!
In many of my posts, I have mentioned the awesome Corpbasics (CBC) fitness classes that I love to take (and just recently teach!). Many of you have reached out to me asking about what these classes entail and what CBC is all about. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity for my first guest post and first free giveaway.
Enjoy!
Hi all, this is Liz and I LOVE Athena’s blog! I met Athena at the YMCA in Brighton. Her class comes right after mine, and I love the combo! I have been teaching fitness classes for four years and appreciate Athena’s expertise and guidance in all matters fitness. Here is my guest post!
I became a “gym rat” when my daughter was born eight years ago. Fitness is a second career of sorts for me, as I was a tw0-way bilingual kindergarten teacher for the six years previous. I now how have two lovely children, and I’m a Group Exercise Coordinator for the Needham YMCA — as well as teaching the Corpbasics Fitness System and Pilates in and around the Boston area. I love exercise, and I love teaching, so it’s a perfect way to spend my time!
We have been spreading the word about the Corpbasics Fitness System (winner of Boston’s 2011 A-List Best Kickboxing Class award) throughout the Boston area, and even recently as far as Orlando, Florida! I thought Fitness & Feta would be a good place to further promote the system, so here goes.
Corpbasics (CBC) Fitness System was founded by Andrew Haynes in 1998. The name implies the importance of good “basics” incorporated into every workout — serious attention is paid to form and function. Martial arts moves are performed continuously to amazing music mixes, connecting the body and mind to produce results in all body types. No one watches the clock in these fitness classes: the workouts are simultaneously demanding and energizing, and the time just flies by!
You can check out CBC classes at its home base (Corpbasics Fitness & Training Center, 73 Bow St, Somerville, MA) or at any of the following:

awww I miss tuesdays with you ladies!! in my mind, I’m cropping myself into the front row of those pictures:) I love all types of exercise and physical activity, but kickboxing (both corpbasics and traditional cardio kickboxing) is my favorite type because it makes me feel so powerful!
Hi Theen! I love all the exercise classes I do – but especially Zumba, love the music and the workout it gives my core. I loved your Kix class I tried last week – wish it was offered at the Reading and Wobun Y. I definitely would add it to my workout schedule if it was offered in this area!!
Hi Athena! I like a bunch of things, but I have to say my favorite class is Step! If you know if any great step classes in the area please let me know! I think the BSC in Allston has 2 classes a week. I hope to make it to one of those soon.
I “liked” your facebook! Great page!- CSchlesier
I also linked to this post on Facebook. I hope this works 😉 – CSchlesier

Hiiiiii! I LOVE your bootcamp and can’t wait for the next session! I also love Zumba and spinning classes! If I go to the gym and just work out on the elliptical or treadmill, I get bored and am not as likely to stay on the machine for a long period of time. Classes keep my attention and my workouts end up being longer!!
I wish I lived Closer so that I could go to these classes! The next boot camp I totally plan on signing up. So far my favorite work outs have been lunges and squats. They are awful, and I feel miserable afterward, but even so the sore feels rewarding!
I had already liked your facebook, but I wrote on the wall anyway!
Also, I posted the link to the blog and contest on my facebook wall!!
Hi Athena,
I love all different types of workouts, Running (hate it, but feel amazing afterwards), supersets, lifting, and of course gymnastics/cheerleading!
I liked your facebook page! I tried to a couple of weeks ago, but it kept messing up from my phone…
Also, I added the link to my facebook page!
I also LOVE your bootcamp classes!! Even though I may not like you during class, I love that fact that I am exhausted after class and sore for days. If I’m not taking your muscle class or kickboxing at the Y, I always love going for a run. In the summer I try to run outside as much as possible and in the winter I am not one to brave the cold so I’m normally running on the treadmill.
Outstanding post, I actually like all of the obsessions and expressly the information!
