A couple of weeks ago I went for a walk with some of my co-workers, and our conversation spurred the idea for this blog post. We were chatting about food likes and dislikes, and I thought it would be cool to share a few healthy foods that I really just don’t like much!
Most people don’t believe me when I tell them that I don’t like:
Coconut Water
Gah, I wish I liked coconut water. It seems like everyone in the healthy living world LOVES coconut water, especially the hot yoga junkies. Coconut water is one of those things that I try again every few months in hopes that I’ll magically like it all of a sudden, but I just never do. I know it’s supposed to be hydrating, but I think it tastes like aloe (or worse). Sorry, coconut water fans, I just can’t jump on the bandwagon.
Olives
For obvious reasons, I want to be an olive superfan. My friends have called me a fake Greek for years because I don’t eat olives. I wish I did because not only would all my Mediterranean dishes would be a lot more Mediterranean, but I’d also get the antioxidants, cancer fighting properties, and all the other health benefits that olives come with. Oh well. I’ll choose extra feta over olives any day.
Grapefruit
Nope, can’t do it. Even though it’s often considered one of the healthiest foods out there, I find the flavor repulsive. Or maybe I just find the concept of the grapefruit diet repulsive? I’ve always wanted to just eat a grapefruit by the spoonful for breakfast, but I guess I’ll have to get my Vitamin C and lycopene elsewhere.
Watermelon
Some of you are probably falling out of your chair at this one, but there is something about the texture of watermelon that I just can’t do. I recently tried eating cactus pear too and couldn’t because the texture reminded me of a watermelon. I think both are just too watery and sweet for me. Most people can’t wait for watermelon season (it could be the pumpkin of summer?), but I never do because then it just means that people say “Whaaaaa? How can you not like watermelon!? It’s so refreshing and awesome and blah, blah, blah” to me over and over.
–Let’s chat–
What healthy foods are out there that you just don’t like, but wish you did? Any other weird food aversions?
Other foods that come to mind that I don’t particularly care for include bacon, sausage, and licorice! But since they aren’t healthy, I don’t really care so much.
I also don’t like olives, but my man does, apparently that’s good for relationships. One healthy food I wish I could like is Avo! We have an avo tree back home and I just never got the taste of it.
YESSS….Olives!!!!! Oh my god I’m so with you, like I can stomach maybe one and that’s it. My husband and his family are OBSESSED with olives and I just can’t even stand to think of eating a whole jar let alone 2 or 3. I have a weird reaction to Asparagus and grew up loving it but now alas I can’t eat it..and always see amazing recipes with it included!!!!
I have that issue that cilantro tastes like soap, its awful!! I also hate onions, I am getting better about consuming them sauteed in dishes, but overall I am not a fan!
Papaya and Cantaloupe. They always tastes a bit like dirt to me.
I’m with you on the coconut water and olives. I’ve tried both a number of times but just don’t like them! RM lovessss olives and can’t believe I don’t eat them. Yuck! I’ll eat watermelon if it’s there, but I wouldn’t choose it myself, but I do love grapefruit!
I don’t like watermelon either, I thought I was the only one!
I also do not enjoy coconut water. I agree it tastes like aloe. Ick. There is a long list of vegetables i just do not like, which is not fun considering how healthy they are for you!
The big food for me that I get made fun of for is mashed potatoes or baked potatoes or any version of potatoes that are not super crispy. Just can’t do it. It’s a texture thing for me too. Yuck!
I love the idea of this post, so cute!! Here’s where I stand: LOVE – Coconut water (but only if it’s ice cold), watermelon. HATE – Grapefruit and olives — I keep trying these things hoping I’ll like them but I just can’t do it. Olives actually make me gag, I just think it will never happen for me! I also don’t like Kombucha.. I feel like everyone in the healthy living world goes crazy for it but it just gives me a stomach ache 🙁
I was 100% with you until you said Watermelon. What is wrong with you!??!?! I put coconut water in my smoothies…all the benefits without the taste. Good stuff.
I really wish I loved brussel sprouts, grapefruit, oranges, and okra. Just can’t do it!
Bananas, yogurt, and cottage cheese – but I LOVE watermelon 🙂
I agree 100% on the coconut water thing. I can’t stand anything coconut flavored, it literally makes me gag. There isn’t much else that I don’t like however
Mine is oatmeal. I really wished I liked it and I try it every few months but no luck – still hate it. 🙂
I do not like green peppers and they do not like me. I also don’t like mussels but I love clams. I have also tried the Ugli fruit because it is fun to talk about… but it is flavorless 🙁
How did I never know that you did not like grapefruit? Every since my doctor told me I would get the same vitamins from orange juice from grapedfruit juice, I have not touched orange juice. I love grapefruit everything; the fruit, juice, martini’s, I even have a grapefruit scented soap. I wish that I liked fish but the texture more than I can handle.
I don’t like any of these either! Watermelon is definitely something I wish I liked. Another is oranges 🙂
I’m with you-black olives are GROSSS. Raw celery is also a deal breaker for me. I can taste it in ANYTHING. I really wish I liked it though!
Also, I used to be the same way with coconut water! I thought it tasted musty UNTIL I tried coconut water from an actual green coconut. It’s SO delicious. When I can’t get an actual coconut (they usually have them at Whole Foods), Taste Nirvana is a good back up (it has real chunks of coconut in it!).
I’m with you on the grapefruit – pass!! And, I haven’t tried coconut water so I can’t say truthfully that I don’t like it – however, I don’t have plans to try it because I don’t like anything coconut!!
Besides your Watermelon adversion, I’m with you 100% !!
This is hilarious – I love it. I can’t stand raw onions, but, will eat them cooked any other way. I also don’t like any beans besides chickpeas because the texture is gross. Anyway, try castelvetrano olives.. I’m sure you’ve tried many, many different kinds of olives but castelvetrano have changed lives of olive-haters I know. They are delectable. 🙂
Coconut is a NO Go for me as well I just hate it.
My sister and my husband are both Coconut water junkies. All the fun flavors he will bring home I always want to try it and IMMEDIATELY regret it blechhh.
