Last Friday night, Tim and I enjoyed a low-key night in.

Our night consisted of four things:

1.  A delicious homemade dinner

Steak tips with caramelized onions and mushrooms.  On the side?  A mixture of avocado, red pepper, tomatoes, and broccoli tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette, ground pepper, and onion powder.  Yum!

2.  Party preparations

Tim helped me whip up my tomato basil skewers for Jen’s good-bye party, as well as start the peanut butter and pretzel truffles for the Super Bowl.  More on both later.

3.  A movie on the couch

Anyone else see Bad Teacher?  It was a good movie for a Friday night in, but nothing great.  I thought it was cute and it had its funny parts, but I’m glad I didn’t pay to see it in the theatre!  I do love Jason Segel though.  Anyone else?

And finally…

4.  Cookies for dessert!

Dessert makes everything better right?  And this dessert was extra exciting because Micki from Mama Micki’s All Natural and Vegan Bakery sent me some free samples of her cookies to try!

“Mama Micki’s All Natural Bakery/Vegan Cookies creates delicious baked goods using only all natural and organic ingredients and are always hand-made from scratch.  They contain absolutely no artificial ingredients, no artificial colors, no preservatives, no refined sugars and no GMO ingredients!”

I feel like sometimes products that contain all natural and organic ingredients get a bad rep and are thought to be not as tasty.  NOT TRUE!  Both of these cookies were delicious, and had I not known the ‘clean eating’ aspect of them ahead of time, I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

We sampled the Vegan Coconut Almond Bliss cookie first.

This cookie is a vegan version of Micki’s top-selling Coconut Almond Bliss Cookie.  These tasted rich and chocolatey, and I am happy to report that both the coconut and almond flavors were very subtle.  I like coconut and almond, but I definitely don’t like too much of either flavor.  This cookie had just the right hint of each and a nice crunch to it.  Tim said he would never be able to tell these were vegan, and my roommate Bridget said the same thing when she tasted one later in the weekend:  “It was really good and tasted just like a regular chocolate cookie!  I definitely couldn’t tell it was vegan!”

Next up were the Oatmeal Raisin Cookies with Sunflower Seeds.

Micki says she adds sunflower seeds to this cookie to give a healthy spin to the classic flavor.  And these were awesome!  So chewy and the flavors just melt in your mouth.  I definitely liked the sunflower seeds as a nice little “extra” and for some crunch too.  Tim’s face lit up when he tried this one!  And my other roommate Katrina tasted these as Bridget was busy sampling the Coconut Almond one.  She said “I wasn’t expecting anything that great when you told me these were all natural cookies.  But these were one of the best cookies I’ve ever had and I would eat 5,000 of them!  I liked the sunflower seeds too.”

Thanks to all my taste testers 🙂
