You know what? I’ve never really hopped on the smoothie bandwagon before. They’re everywhere too — I see them in so many other healthy living blogs. I don’t know why I never was into them — maybe getting the blender out (and having to wash it) seemed like too much effort for a drink I’d slug down in about 2.5 seconds? I don’t know, but over my vacation week I realized that all this time I’ve been missing out.
Here’s one of my fave smoothies that I’ve been whipping up lately. Because as you know, I’m a sucker for anything with bananas. And peanut butter.
Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
Recipe makes one smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk of choice
- 2 ice cubes
- 1 medium-sized banana, broken into a few pieces
- 1 spoonful of peanut butter (I prefer Teddie’s unsalted smooth!)
- About 2 tsp. agave (or honey/syrup/sweetener of choice)
- 1/2 tbsp. chia or flax seeds (optional)
Directions
- Put everything in the blender (or Magic Bullet).
- Blend!
Voila, you’re done. 🙂
Um, super easy. And I love the combo of peanut butter and banana, so this concoction is a winner. If you want it a little thicker (that’s what she said?) you can try adding a scoop of plain Greek yogurt into the mix.
Great for a post workout snack, a grab n go breakfast, and do it yourself is much more wallet friendly than splurging at the local coffee shop or smoothie joint.
Anyone on a smoothie kick? What’s your favorite smoothie flavor? Any good “That’s What She Said” lines? 😉

You should seriously consider getting a magic bullet if you don’t have one. Ours stays out on the counter because we use it so much and it comes with glasses you can use to blend and then drink right from! Definitely cuts down on dishes. Similar to this recipe, I make one with a banana, tablespoon of peanut butter, and a cup of low-fat chocolate milk. I use almond milk mixed with 2 tablespoons ovaltine. Add ice and it’s delish! I have also been into green smoothies with spinach because I have a tough time getting in my daily veggies!
Sounds great! Thanks!
I will definitely be trying that smoothie! Looks yummy!
My dad jumped on the smoothie band wagon months ago and I am now following suit and on a hott summer day and it’s the number one thing I am craving!
Dad’s Green Drink
1 banana
1 scoop of vanilla protein
1 cup almond milk
1 1/2 cup spinach
* I like to add ice, Dad like’s his without!
You don’t taste the spinach at all, but the added iron gives me a great boost of energy! I have also tried this with banana flavored protein, and steel cut oats and it’s delicious! (hold the ice if you’re using oatmeal)
Thanks for the recipe!!
I have heard that spinach is a great add in for smoothies! I make one everyday using my Oster Personal Blender. It comes with a to-go thermos so I can bring it with me to work everyday! http://www.oster.com/myblend/
Here is what I put in mine:
1/2 cup skim milk
3 oz plain non fat greek yogurt
1 medium banana
1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder
Makes a great mid-morning snack for me everyday!
I agree with Ashley- this blender never leaves my counter! The Magic Bullets are worth the investment!
Yum, thanks for the recipe!!
Yum! This one sounds good! I used to make them for awhile and then we moved and never unpacked the blender! We just said last night how we need to start making them again!
I love it! I also made this again today, with a scoop of chocolate protein powder. Now I can’t decide which one I like the best!
sounds deliciousss
I just tried this recipe, and IT IS delicious, like desert!!! Thank you! I used almond milk as my substitute, and the flax seed and honey combo.
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! This is one of my favorite smoothies.
