Welcome! Today is day two of my reader focus week. If you missed yesterday, don’t forget to introduce yourself.
As you guys know, I not only love to write my blog, but I love reading other blogs. I use The Old Reader to house all the blogs I follow in one place. This makes it easier to keep up to date on what I have and haven’t read. It also lets me categorize the blogs I read, it keeps a tally of how many unread posts are in each blog, and it also allows me to mark as read if I want. I love The Old Reader because I find it is the site that most closely mimics the functionality of Google Reader which went away last year.
Anyways, I’m always looking for new blogs to read or sites to subscribe to, so today that’s what I want you guys to share with me.
What are your top three favorite blogs to read?
What are your favorite fitness, food, healthy living, or lifestyle blogs?
Are you a blogger? If so, what’s your blog name and link, and what do you typically write about?
What sites do you subscribe to receive updates from? Feel free to share even if they aren’t related to healthy living.
Who do you recommending following on social media? Are there any Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, Instagram users, or Pinterest boards that you think I’d be interested in? Feel free to suggest things from other social media platforms as well.
What do you look for in choosing what blogs or sites to follow in terms of both content and site design?
If you don’t read many blogs, recommend a book!
Just some questions to get you going if you’re feeling stuck.
Can’t wait to see what you guys have to share. I love new reading material!
My blog is TheFaithfulRunner.Wordpress.com. I write about my journey to train for my first half marathon and give tips and motivation to others along the way. I hope to show people that anybody can do it if they put their minds to it! I’ve added blogs to my WordPress Reader to follow them and have a blog roll page on my site for all the blogs I follow. 🙂
I just started following your blog since you’ve been a great commenter! I love your philosophy. Keep it up!
Oh – I don’t know if I can pick my top 3 blogs – I follow way too many but have a hard time cutting down!
My blog is Day-with-kt
I just finished a good book – Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (the author of Gone Girl).
Thanks for the book recommendation! I don’t get to read many books during the year, but I do during the summer. Will add that to my summer reading list.
I think I always like reading the newest-to-me blogs the best- because I’m still finding out about them!
I think I like Fitnessista for the food/fitness NON-sponsored stuff
Bev Cooks because she’s hilarious AND a mom
Skinnytaste/Just a taste/iowa girl eats/peas and crayons for last minute dinner ideas
I’m more of a read-through-twitter person lately..
nutcaseinpoint.com is my blog, and if my mom didn’t call me after every time i publish something, i would talk WAY more about pooping and farting and maybe sex.
I don’t subscribe to any because I am already bombarded via inst/twit/bloglovin
I follow a ton of local bars/restaurants to see what’s happening.. then there’s all the healthy living blogger, but I tend to scroll over all of them because they’re RT’s and such.
Humor. NOT having to click through to actually read the entire post! (why do people do that?!) People who actually live life (not the ones who preface a picture of a cookie with ‘i ran 32507 miles so i EARNED these. pfff. what’s life without cookies!?)
MWF seeking BFF. Totally the best and most interesting read in a while. Trying Other Hood next, then Drink. I like social issues books apparently. Although I am reading a book right now about a little old lady who is getting in shape so she can break out of the old folkd home , rob a bank, and be in shape enough to rob a bank…
I like Fitnessista for the same reasons… she keeps it real. Never heard of Bev Cooks so I will definitely check that one out! I don’t read too many posts right from Twitter, I get too distracted, so I keep them all in my reader. I do follow Boston restaurant stuff though for activities!
Some of my favorite blogs are skinnytaste.com, Snack Therapy, Kiss my Broccoli, and Running with Spoons
My blog is a newer blog, but I’m hoping to make it grow with lots of yummy and healthy recipes soon! It’s enticinghealthyeating.weebly.com 🙂
Hi Kaylin! Thanks for commenting. I am definitely going to check out your blog. I also have never read three of the ones you suggested, so I’m psyched for some new ones. Thank you!
I love love LOVE pbfingers.com and carrotsncake.com. I just finished reading The Light of Day about a man who lost his son to suicide and his quest to find out why his seemingly “normal” teenage son committed suicide. It was compelling!
I read PB fingers and CNC as well. Thanks for the book recommendation – sounds interesting!
I love to read books and blogs that inspire me to become a better person. My latest favorite book, ” Get Balanced, Get Blissed: Nourishment for Body, Mind, and Soul” by Lynne Goldberg http://liveblissnow.com/ has inspired me to make healthy changes to my life and because of it I have discovered the importance of eating a more plant-based diet. I love reading your blog because it is full of so many tips that keep me going!
Haven’t seen that book yet, but it looks like a good read. Thanks, Liz! I agree that we need the motivation and inspiration with so many negative things going on in the world.
I couldn’t agree with you more Annie! I hope you get a chance to check out the book it really is a must read!
That book sounds up my alley! Thanks for the nice comment. 🙂
My favorite blog changes pretty regularly (read weekly). Right now it’s probably Manger by mimi thorison, Pinch of Yum, and Roots and Feathers.
Favs: Food: Pinch of Yum Fitness: F&F Healthy Living: I can’t decide Lifestyle: Roots & Feathers
I blog @ sweetloveandginger.blogspot.com Mostly food, but a little about my life and adventrues, and a bi weekly fitness post, and a couple other scattered topics.
I subscribe to close to 100 blogs/news sites so I’m not going to list them all.
I don’t really use social media to follow anyone, just to enter giveaways lol
Context and simple site design appeal the most to me. If a page is overcrowded or confused I won’t stay to read the content to find out if I like them.
Have you checked out the Gracious Pantry blog yet? She has amazing Clean Eating recipes and info.
So many new good ideas!! I’m psyched – thank you!
I’m not gonna lie, I don’t read many blogs regularly. Yours is the only one I subscribe to, and I check in occasionally on my friend’s who is a comedy writer (#LNSM!). Even though I don’t read the blogs regularly, I always look forward to your Friday Favorites posts and the blogs you include there. The time I do spend reading, I mostly read bad novels recommended by Shannon. 🙂 They’re not bad, really, but they’re not exactly literary masterpieces. They’re a nice break from thinking after a long day at work and they help put me to sleep. Right now I’m reading Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover, but I’m not far enough in to know if I recommend it.
I feel honored that F&F is the only blog subscription you get and that Friday Favorites are your go to procrastination material. 😉 I still need to check out your friend’s!
