If you are someone who tends to alternate between sweet and salty snacks when a nighttime craving hits, I’m here with a new recipe for you to try today. Two recipes, really!
I hear from my clients who struggle with nighttime eating that they’ll often reach for some chocolate, then they’ll go for a few crackers, then a handful of nuts, then a piece of cheese, then a few Sour Patch kids, etc. I can totally relate to going back and forth, snacking on both sweet and salty stuff, but never seeming to get my fill!
One of my suggestions for this scenario is to actually pair a piece of fruit with something savory. You can definitely do this when selecting your food items to include on intentional snack plates, such as slicing up an apple or pear and pairing it with some cheese, slicing up a banana and dipping it in cashew butter, or eating some blueberries with some almonds and coconut.
Lately I’ve been pairing peaches with cottage cheese for a sweet and savory fix, and the combinations I’ve come up with are both incredibly satisfying AND satiating.
Maple Cinnamon Grilled Peaches
Ingredients
-
1 peach, peeled, pit removed, and cut in half
-
1 heaping scoop of Hood® Cottage Cheese with Maple and Vanilla Added
-
Shredded unsweetened coconut
-
Dash of cinnamon
-
A little extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, melted
-
Salt, to taste
Directions
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil or melted coconut oil on both sides of the peach. Sprinkle with salt. Place the peach with its inner/flat side down on a preheated grill set to high heat. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes. When done, you’ll see some char marks and the peaches will start to pull away from the grill grates. Remove from the grill, and scoop the cottage cheese into the hole where the peach pit was. Top with shredded coconut and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Smoky Chive Grilled Peaches
Ingredients
-
1 peach, peeled, pit removed, and cut in half
-
1 heaping scoop of Hood® Cottage Cheese with Chive
-
Dash of chili powder
-
Dash of paprika
-
Dash of cumin
-
A little extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil, melted
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil or melted coconut oil on both sides of the peach. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and the other spices. Sprinkle with additional spices if desired.
When time allows, we like to grill the peaches first because this caramelizes the natural sugars on the outside of the peach to bring out some additional sweetness. I also find that grilling the peaches give it a better texture, and it adds a little char to the fruit! If you don’t want to grill, that’s totally fine too. Just enjoy the flavor combinations.
I highly recommend Hood® Cottage Cheese as a nutritious snack for its high protein content, and I hope this snack and/or dessert suggestion helps keep you full so that you won’t constantly be running to and from the kitchen!
