“According to my calorie counter, we burned 598 calories this morning.  That’s 5 skinny girl margaritas.”  -Jess, after taking my Spin class on Friday morning.

Friday night I went out for dinner and drinks with four of my gym friends to celebrate Cinco Cuatro De Mayo.  We decided to try Lone Star, this new little taco and tequila bar in Allston.  Lone Star is the sister bar to Deep Ellum – it’s right next door and has the same kind of vibe.  It doesn’t seem like many people know about Lone Star yet:  it doesn’t really have its own website, you can’t find the menu online, and there isn’t even a sign outside.

Just one lone star.  Get it?

I’m not sure the atmosphere was what I had expected!  Definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant.  It was small and dark, with a bar on the right-hand side and a few tables lined up along the left.  Luckily we didn’t have to wait long, but if we did we would have awkwardly been blocking the way for a bit.  They don’t take reservations, so this probably isn’t a good choice if you have a large party.

The girls and I decided we weren’t in the mood for just any old margarita.

MUG-aritas all the way!

That thing is HUGE!
(And definitely NOT a skinny girl margarita).

Normally I’m not a huge regular margarita fan.  I mean, I’ll have them but I definitely prefer frozen fruity margaritas over the regular ones.  However, this bad boy could possibly be the best tasting marg I’ve ever had.  Warning to all my fellow frozen fans though — Lone Star does NOT have any of our beloved frozen friends on the menu.  They have regular margaritas, other tequila based drinks, sangria, and a beer selection.

For an app we got some chips and guac.

The guac was unbelievable.  Chunky and delicious.  I could have eaten the entire thing on my own.  But I was nice and shared with my friends.

For food, tacos!  You can order tacos at Lone Star one by one, they have a top section dedicated to different types of tacos for $4 each.  I decided to try the pork shoulder taco as well as a fish taco.  Can you guys believe I’ve never had a fish taco in my entire life?!

They were good!  A little smaller than I thought they would be, but good.  Not gonna lie, I kind of wish I got more than two.  🙂

Was a fun night with some of my favorite ladies!  We stayed at Lone Star for a LONG time — were talking and laughing for a few hours!  Word of advice:  Mug-aritas are not felt until you stand up to go to the bathroom.  Yikes!

Don’t you think that after all our Cinco De Mayo themed classes this week, we deserved a night out?

To summarize:

How was everyone’s Cinco De Mayo?  What did you do to celebrate?

P.S.  For a funny story about Lone Star, check out my roommate’s first experience there!
